Singapore Academic Scholarship


Why does Singapore give scholarships to international students?
Singapore experiences shortage of manpower and in order to overcome this shortage, the Tuition Grant Scheme was introduced by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Manpower of Singapore to help students with the expense of tertiary education in the country. According to the scheme, students who receive the grant must sign a Tuition Grant Agreement which makes them obliged contractually to work (with compensation) in any company in Singapore for three years after they graduate.

Why should I study diploma and how long is the course?
The major gateway for admission in a Singapore university is through a diploma. There are diverse types of diplomas offered in Singapore. The duration of each of these diplomas can vary up to 3 years including a semester for internship.

Is the diploma valid in Singapore only?
The diplomas earned from Singapore Polytechnics are recognized for higher education both in Singapore universities as well as recognized universities around the world.

After Studies
After my diploma course, can I apply PR in Singapore?
Yes, you can. The PR approval rate is high among those who have secured tuition grant through the Tuition Grant Scheme of Singapore government.

In Singapore, what is the employment rate and how is the salary after diploma?
Employment rate for diploma graduates are high in Singapore. Candidates can earn anything from $ 2,400 to $ 4,800 per month which is about INR 1.2 lakh to 2.4 lakh per month. Also, the chances of getting hired by MNCs are high in Singapore since there are many such companies in the country.

Can I study degree as part time while doing a full time job after diploma?
Yes, you can. Singapore's top universities including National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University allow students to study part time while doing a full time job. Many students use this opportunity to complete their degree. Some students opt for Masters and Ph.D after degree.

Can I take bank loan?
Yes, you can avail the loan from either a Singapore bank or a bank in India.
If you know someone with a Singapore PR willing to stand as guarantee, you can secure education loan easily from a bank in Singapore.
If you cannot find anyone with Singapore PR, you can secure a bank loan from a bank in India.

Am I allowed to do part time job during school term and semester break?
Yes, you are. You can either go back hometown to visit family or take any part-time job during your 6 weeks break between each semester.

How is the part-time job availability?  How much can I approximately earn monthly?
Since Singapore has an expansive tourism industry, there are numerous part-time job vacancies in the country which do not require any specific skill set. A student can earn up to 1 lakh per month. The positions available are Cashier, Waiter in 5-Star Restaurants, Office Help, IT assistant etc.

How much will be my monthly expenditure while I study?
While living expenses can vary depending on the lifestyle of students, an average student may need INR 25,000 per month to live in Singapore which you can earn from part-time job.

Who can apply for admission and how long is the entire application procedure?
All students who are eligible and have completed 10th or currently studying 11th or 12th can apply for admission. Students can check their eligibility at the bottom of the page**. The application process takes about 6-8 months for completion including visa processing.
